New Patients:
Please call our office to schedule an appointment or use our appointment request feature. Upon scheduling any appointment, as a new patient, we will send you a "welcome packet" including all the necessary paperwork, if time allows.
If you are not currently a patient of record, you can schedule one of three appointments:
- A second opinion / consult - If you are unhappy or concerned about a diagnosis your current dentist has gien you, Dr. Overmyer will be happy to take a look. If you have any current x-rays or records pertaining to this diagnosis, please bring them with you to this appointment. Second opinions for diagnosis are free of charge!
- An emergency visit - If you are experiencing a dental emergency, you can schedule an appointment to see Dr. Overmyer for a quick exam to diagnose the problem. After you receive a diagnosis, we can schedule you an appointment for treatment.
- A new patient visit - If you are not experiencing a dental emergency or are in need of a consult, we will schedule you for a new patient visit. We schedule this appointment prior to any cleanings or restorative appointments to properly determine your specific dental needs. (Note: children and teens up to a certain age may be scheduled with the hygienist for their first visit; please inquire about this when you call). Read further for more detailed information on your new patient visit.
Detailed information regarding your new patient visit:
We know that your first visit to our office is a very important visit. This is where you will meet Dr. Overmyer and his staff. We will obtain information on your health and dental history, and we will also become acquainted with your oral condition, so we will know exactly what type of treatment, whether it be preventive, restorative, etc., will suit you the best.
Your "new patient" visit with our office will be composed of:
- Taking x-rays: We will take a full set; usually 18 pictures, but this depends on your remaining teeth. This full set is taken once every 3 to 5 years.
- A comprehensive exam: Dr. Overmyer will check the health of your teeth, gums and surrounding soft tissues. He charts all existing work and treatment plans any future work that would be needed. You will learn all about your mouth, and this is the opportunity to address anything you may want in regards to your dentistry. It turns out that many patients are astounded by the care and commitment we take in learning about their mouths, and in return, teaching them what we see!
What to expect of your first appointment:
Being well-prepared for your first appointment will ensure that Dr. Overmyer has all of the needed information to provide you with the best care possible. It will also help relieve any unnecessary anxiety you may be feeling. If you are anxious prior to your first appointment, please inform the staff. It is not uncommon for people to experience anxiety prior to a dental appointment, so we understand and do everything within our power to make you feel comfortable. It may help if you take some time to review the "Our Team" page and familiarize yourself with Dr. Overmyer and his team. We are looking forward to your first visit!
